Logitech Z623 vs Z625 – Which is better?

Computer speakers have been in the audio market for a substantial amount of time, as IBM invented the first internal computer speaker in 1981. Nowadays, dedicated external computer speakers have become a norm in the computer world.

Logitech, one of the leading budget-friendly brands for computer speakers in the market, offers their two active computer speaker sets, the Z623 and Z625. Both produce great sounds and are also budget-friendly, which is very appealing for those who do not want to break the bank. Both have similarities and dissimilarities but are great products for their price.

Deciding on which is a better option to buy is a head-scratcher, and that is why we are here are to help you. We will compare the two products side by side to determine which is the better computer speaker set.

Logitech Z623

Logitech Z623 is a THX-certified 2.1 speaker system that can produce studio-quality audio for a cheap price. The speaker system is composed of two satellite speakers and a powerful subwoofer and can deliver produce sound big enough to fill a spacious room.

The Logitech Z623 is one of the top-selling Logitech speaker systems based on the independent sales data from the United States of America (September 2019-September 2020). This only shows the product has been proven and tested in the market.

Sound Quality

Logitech Z623 is an active computer speaker and is a THX-certified 2.1 speaker system. Being a THX-certified system means that it will be able to reproduce sound at a reference quality for a specific room size. The Z623 features 400 Watts Peak/200 watts RMS of power, a serious amount of power that is impressive for a computer speaker system.

I still remember those times when computer speaker systems use PMPO figures just to pump up the quoted output to triple digits.

Techradar gave the Logitech Z623 a perfect score of 5 stars out of 5 stars. The website praised its rich and deep sound and said it to be the most “three-dimensional” they’ve ever heard from a 2.1 system. The reviewers like its powerful deep bass and its overall good sound quality for the price, but others were also hoping for crispier and sharper mids and highs.

Bestbuy gave an average score of 4.7 stars out of 5 stars from 2,693 reviews which is an almost perfect score, while Lifewire.com gave 3.7 stars out of 5 stars as the reviewers hated its mids and high that get drowned out when the volume is cranked up.

For a speaker system with a 400-watt peak, it can reproduce a decent volume and sound in a room with 30 to 40 people or an estimated floor area of 75 sq. meters. Therefore, even with some complaints about its highs and mids, Logitech Z623 is a great option for buyers looking for quality sound for a low price. I am willing to buy it without any hesitation.

Build Quality

The Logitech Z623 is designed and built to last for a long time. Even though all the speakers are made from ABS plastics, they are extremely robust. Their protective grills are also sturdy and built well enough to take a fall.

These are the dimensions of the Logitech Z623 speaker system:

ProductHeightWidthDepthWeight
Speakers284mm305mm266m1750g
Subwoofer284mm305mm266mm7000g

All the speakers are attached with rubber bases underneath to help their stability and sound absorption, which helps reduce the furniture buzz when cranking up the volume. The satellites were also designed to be narrower at their top and wider at their bottom for better stability.

The speakers from the satellites are angled upward to have a louder effect when facing the computer. The subwoofer has a smaller size than the Logitech Z625’s subwoofer but is still heavier than it looks. The power supply and the amplifier board are built inside the subwoofer, which is pretty ordinary for this kind of speaker system.

The design, the way it was built, and its black finish are really impressive and are worth its price.

Key Features

The only downside of the Logitech Z623 is its connectivity. With the digital revolution, we have experienced this past decade, the speaker system does not have Bluetooth or Airplay. It can’t connect also to Wi-fi and any form of USB connectivity or remote control is absent as well.

Overall, these are only the connectivity specifications for the Logitech Z623:

  • 2 analog inputs (3.5 mm aux)
  • An analog stereo input
  • A headphone output (3.5mm)

For all these connectivity issues, this might be a deal-breaker for some tech-savvy personalities, but it is still acceptable for those who use their computers that are only looking for a quality sound.

The placement of your speakers is also important, so be sure to have them in the optimal setting and ensure they are facing the correct directions to get the best experience.

This is a testament to the product’s performance.

Sound Quality

An older brother of the Logitech Z623, Logitech Z625 is also a THX-certified speaker system that can reproduce sound at a reference quality for a specific room size. The Z625 also has the same power as the Z623 having 400 Watts peak/200 Watts RMS (Root Mean Square).

These are some of the audio specifications of the Logitech Z623:

Total PowerSpeakersSubwooferFrequency Response
Logitech Z625200 Watts RMS2 pc. x 35 Watts RMS1 pc. x 130 Watts RMS35Hz – 20kHz

Although the Logitech Z625 is an updated version of its predecessor Logitech Z623, many reviewers are still dissatisfied with the crispiness of its mids and highs especially when the volume is cranked up, the same with the Z623. The speaker system’s strong point is really its bass.

Many of the reviewers liked its bass and noted that you rarely hear little distortion when the volume is cranked up. That figure is a great indication that this speaker system is worth it.

Users like its sound quality for the price, thumping bass, and its clear mids and highs in a low volume setting. The reviewers liked its performance in gaming and movie settings. These are the reviews you expect when you buy a THX-certified speaker system.

To be able to receive a THX certification, a standard of the audio industry, a speaker system must undergo and pass more than 400 rigorous tests. So if you are looking to replicate a cinema or theatre setting in your room, then Logitech Z625 is a great option. With its power and deep bass, you can achieve your dream for a low price.

Build Quality

Like its predecessor, Logitech Z625 is designed and built sturdy enough to last for a very long time. The Logitech Z625 is built with a mix of plastic and medium-density fibreboard, which is slightly better than the materials used in the Logitech Z623. The Logitech Z625 is also heavier overall than the Logitech Logitech Z623.

These are the dimensions of the Logitech Z625 speaker system:

ProductHeightWidthDepthWeight
Left Speaker195mm116mm124mm850g
Right Speaker195mm116mm124mm900g
Subwoofer303mm282mm264mm6400g

Like the Logitech Z623, the Logitech Z625 has rubber bases underneath its speakers to help their stability and sound absorption, helping to reduce furniture buzz when cranking up the volume. The same with the Z623, the Z625s are also designed to be narrower at their top and wider at their bottom for better stability.

Just the same with Logitech Z623, the satellite speakers of the Z625 are also angled upward to have a better listening experience when facing the computer. The power supply and the amplifier board are also built inside the subwoofer, which is pretty ordinary for this kind of speaker system.

One of the notable differences in its built quality is that the Logitech Z625 has a larger subwoofer than the Logitech Z623, which makes a difference in the sound, especially with its response on lower frequencies.

For its build quality and design, there is little competition in the market that can beat this beast.

Key Features

Just like its predecessor, Logitech Z625 have also issues with its connectivity features. The speaker system does not have Bluetooth or Airplay. It does not have Wi-fi connectivity and any form of USB connectivity or remote control is absent as well. The only advantage for the Z625 against Z623 is that it adds a digital optical input (S/PDIF) to boot, which is a better quality connectivity option.

Overall, these are only the connectivity specifications for the Logitech Z625:

  • 2 analog inputs (3.5 mm aux)
  • An analog stereo input
  • A headphone output (3.5mm)
  • A digital optical input (S/PDIF)

Looking at online stores and forums, many are disappointed with the Logitech Z623 because it does not come with Bluetooth connectivity. Others also say that the optical cable in the box is cheap. For me, these issues are still manageable because of the sound quality and price.

Price

Logitech Z625 is sold in the U.S.A. for $199.99 while Amazon.co.uk sells the product for £169.99 The website bestreview.com awarded the Logitech Z625 as the “Best Bang for the Buck”, while the website bassheadspeakers.com awarded the Z625 as the “Best Overall Speaker System”. 132 out of 528 customers from BestBuy loved its price point.

Most online reviews and forums praised its pricing, saying that the price is worth it. The set also comes with a 2-year warranty. This speaker system is not recommended for those audiophiles but is a great option for those who want to experience quality audio for a low price.

It’s a great option for those looking to spend less than $300 on a set of speakers.

Pros and Cons – Logitech Z625

Pro

  • THX-certification
  • Ample power output
  • Powerful deep bass
  • Bass control in the satellite
  • Attractive black finish
  • Affordable
  • Good sound quality for the price
  • Decent build quality
  • Digital optical input

Cons

  • Heavy subwoofer
  • Lacking crisp and sharpness on mids and highs
  • No Bluetooth connectivity

  • Almost same issues with the Logitech Z623

Which is better?

Logitech Z623 has an advantage against the Logitech Z625. It is cheaper and even though the Z625 has a digital optical input, which is great for connectivity options, the $30 difference is not worth it. As a simple guy who only wants to listen to a quality sound and no Bluetooth connectivity is involved, I think I would go for the Logitech Z623.

Whichever you go with, you won’t regret your decision. There is a reason that these two speaker models are used so often and people struggle to make the decision between the two. I hope this helped clear up any doubts you may have had about these speakers and wish you the best of luck with your purchase!
