Top Pick: ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 Bookshelf Speakers Review
The Elac B6-a speaker was the rave of the industry, as well as the press… Until the release of the B6.2. As they say, you stole my slam, or in this case, my sound! One could be forgiven for thinking there would have been no updates on the Debut b6-a but here we are already. A striking fact is that the designer, Andrew Jones, was able to make improvements, all for just an extra $20. Magnificent.
The B6.2 speaker is a blend of the older B6.a, and the more recent Uni-fi, suggesting that Jones had clear plans for the series from the start. This outstanding speaker will give you superior value for your money.
Design
Design-wise, the B6.2 almost looks like it has no connection to the B6.a. A brave move given that most brands would have merely cloned previously existing designs. The B6.2 has a classic appearance, in a tall, slim case and a front bass port. The speaker is made of 1’-inch silk dome tweeter and a 6.5’-inch aramid fiber. Further differentiating itself from past releases, the speaker’s front panel is tightly fused with the mesh-tweeter, a strategy to enhance sound output. What’s more, the presence of a protruded dust cap improves the responsiveness of the speaker.
As a smart move against sonic coloration, Jones installed an additional brace to the design, also effectively replacing the former resonant sound to a faint, metallic pop when tapped. Lastly, as a protective measure, the back is bound by metal posts.
More Melodic Sound
The B6.2 makes significant updates on the older Debut. To begin with, there’s the tweeter, bass port, woofer, cabinet and crossover. Impressive. All these additional features combine to deliver a very lively sound with brilliant clarity.
With these upgrades, there is a lush feeling to sound like the heavy mix of bass, drums, piano and other instruments was notable. Each component distinct in its exhibition yet combining to form a wider, more-dimensional sound range. There’s a remarkable boom to sound on these speakers.
Other Features
The Elac brand has earned a reputation for quality, affordable products, and this does not change on the B6.2. This compact speaker boasts flagship specifications for a midrange budget. In fact, speakers offering similar features are likely to cost almost double. This is a highly recommended speaker for those after an Elac bookshelf speaker.
Should you buy it?
The Elac B6.2 speaker recreates sound with remarkable ease. The features embedded in the box are meant for far more expensive speakers, but Elac seems to care more about affordable quality. The speaker is durable too. Aside from the boxy (maybe too big) design, the B6.2 is an excellent choice.
These are best paired with a subwoofer to get the most out of those lows.
ELAC Uni-Fi UB5 Bookshelf Speaker Review
The Elac Uni-fi UB5 promised a lot, and it has fulfilled them, even surpassing expectations in doing so. Before its release, it seemed the speaker was to be the next best thing after a large paycheck, and surprisingly, it is. For a relatively inexpensive price, the Uni-fi UB5 defies all odds.
This version of Elac Bookshelf speakers offers high-standard, exquisite performance, excellent three-dimensional sound and a modern, compact look. A bookshelf speaker has never been better. The resultant stereo of these features is classy; a deep, reverberating bass coating on all sounds.
Design
The Uni-Fi UB5 comes with a wooden finish that has retro vibes while remaining modern. Unfortunately, it comes in a vinyl wrap that is not as tough as many feel it should be. But this won’t be a major concern for many as it won’t be moved around too often.
However, there’s been a change in the style of speakers in recent times. The focus has shifted to ‘hi-fi’ technology, due to its unique capabilities, and Elac is making consistent efforts to see that everyone can afford it. The outstanding part of the Uni-fi UB5 is the concentric driver that houses a 1’-inch dome and is housed by a 4’-inch aluminum dome in return. The design leaves the port at the rear, hence making it recommended to keep the system, at least, 3 feet away from the wall so as to contain the boom.
Improved Bass
The Uni-fi UB5 makes a considerable improvement on sound. There is a deep, tight bass range, accurate highs, wide soundstage, and a sleek midrange.
The bass has a fantastic, auto-tune definition that moves seamlessly through sound options. There is a superb finality to sound, as beats sounded like beats and voices were exactly voices. Not only that, the sound quality is great and when paired with a powerful amp, it is extraordinary. The beat recognizes all textures be it acoustic jazz or reggae mix, the sound revels in naturality.
Other Features
As usual, the price of the Uni-fi UB5 separates it from the crowd, just as the three-dimensional soundstage distinguishes sound textures. At such an affordable price, we are convinced of Elac’s dedication to making “true hi-fi” available to everyone.
Conclusion
The Elac Uni-fi UB5 proposes several distinctive features that put it several notches above bookshelf speakers of the same range. Along with that, the sound system is immersive and captivating, making the Uni-fi UB5 a great bookshelf speaker.

Elac Debut 2.0 B5-2 Bookshelf Speakers Review
The B5.2 is an upgrade on the original B5 series, and it is easy to see that there are significant differences. They are taller and slenderer than the previous versions. The previous B5 speakers were perfect as they were, or so we thought until the B5.2 was released. These speakers are produced from parts created by Jones himself so as to avoid the usage of substandard materials. With a standard subwoofer and a Debut center channel, the B5.2 caters for all music needs.
Design
Jones is innovative in the design of the B5.2 speakers, coming up with an appearance that is commendably different from the previous version. Just like the B6.2 speakers, the B5.2 speaker is produced from a 5’-inch aramid fiber. Also, the pole piece is punched with holes to let in ventilation, thereby accounting for a deeper midrange and bass. There is the addition of a new tweeter that consequently allows wider wave dispersion. There is as well a cloth dome tweeter, with all design features aligning with hi-fi specifications.
Better Sound Quality
The B5.2 possesses a naturally neutral tone that lies somewhere along the line of bright, loud sounds to low, quiet music. This could be resultant of the low bass in the tonal cabinet. Because of this, it helps to highlight every effort put into a song, ranging from the piano, drum, keyboard and voice. Voices, particularly, are precise as they should be, with no noticeable alteration. They are however laced with subtle modifications that enhance the sound quality just enough to make it impressionable.
Other Features
Aside from the affordable price, the B5.2 speakers come with an unbeatable 10-year warranty. All faults concerning manufacturing, be it parts or labor, are repairable for little or no cost. This is an impressive additional feature.
Conclusion
The Elac B5.2 bookshelf speakers offer an exact return of value on money. In fact, it offers more than it costs. Boasting high-grade production materials fused into a sleek, fine design, as well as, an improved sound quality, the B5.2 is a nice purchase always.
